With an aim to contribute towards environment conservation and to promote clean and green energy, India International Centre (IIC), which is one of the most premier cultural institutions of the country, has joined hands with Tata Power Solar.

Under this partnership, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power has commissioned 70kW solar rooftop plant at the IIC premises. This plant was set up with an investment of about Rs 30 lakh by the company under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Through this installation, eminent IIC is likely to save Rs 11 lakh per annum on its power bills and trimming carbon emission by 63 tonnes. This project entails energy efficiency of 90,000 kWh per year.

Speaking on the occasion, President of India International Centre and former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, N.N Vohra thanked Tata Power for its support and said “it not only help us in reducing our monthly expenditure on power consumption but also improve the environment via reducing carbon footprints.”

Vohra further added that “being responsible organizations, the association of Tata Power Solar and IIC showcases their commitment towards making the country a green energy leader.”

As IIC has parabolic rooftops, so the roof mounting was planned in an unconventional way and it was kept in mind at the time of execution that the structure was not hampered from any end.

Also, the uniqueness of this installation was that the engineering team had to cast the RCC beams to fit the ballast structure to the curved roof.

Commenting on the IIC and Tata Power partnership, Tata Power, MD & CEO, Praveer Sinha said “we are pleased to partner with IIC on installing solar rooftop solution. We continuously seek to move ahead in our renewable and sustainability objectives. With an aim to be environmentally responsible by reducing its carbon footprint, IIC and our solar entity, Tata Power Solar initiated this project to install 70kW roof-mounted solar panels at the location.”

“IIC is a prestigious establishment of the city and we are taking our initial step towards using green energy. Our association with Tata Power Solar showcases our farsightedness towards promoting green energy in the city as well as in the country,” said Kailash Nath Shrivastava, Director, IIC.

Ashish Khanna, MD & CEO, Tata Power Solar and President, Tata Power (Renewables), said that “This is another milestone that encourages us in maintaining our number one solar rooftop position in the country.”
