Hero Future Energies Partners with Bangladesh for 100 MW Sonagazi Solar Park

Hero Future Energies has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB), a subsidiary of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), for the development of a 100 MW solar power plant at the Sonagazi Solar Park in Feni District, Chittagong. The solar park is being developed by the EGCB with support from the Government of Bangladesh.

The 100 MW project will be developed in multiple phases and is slated for commercial operations next year. It is being held that Trina Solar will provide Engineering Procurement Construction services for the Sonagazi Solar PV Park (Sonagazi Solar PV Park 1).

Eyeing the opportunity that the Bangladesh market offers, Indian renewable energy developers are readily joining hands with Bangladesh for projects. In June, an arm of Amara Raja Group, Amara Raja Infra Private Limited (ARIPL), won a 100 MW solar power project in Bangladesh. The value of the project is pegged at $130 million. Other Indian renewable energy firms that have commissioned projects in Bangladesh include Windstream and Rays Power Infra.

Back in February, the Bangladesh Government also announced the signing of an agreement with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to increase the use of solar energy in the country. The agreement was signed between the ISA Director General Ajay Mathur and the Bangladesh Power Division Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman. The agreement is expected to be implemented by December 2026.
