Gurugram to Organize Solar Mela for Renewable Energy Push

This solar mela is being organized to provide affordable power to the residents of Gurgaon and to provide a platform to them to come and see for themselves the benefits of solar power.

In an attempt to encourage people to switch to solar power, the Gurgaon district administration is organizing a ‘Solar Mela’ on August 12 and 13. All stakeholders, including solar equipment manufacturers, residents and bankers — who will provide finance to consumers who are willing to install solar panels on their premises, will participate in the two-day event.

Solar power is the pet project of deputy commissioner of Gurgaon Vinay Pratap Singh and he wants to make the entire district solar dependent. “This mela is being organized to provide affordable power to the residents of Gurgaon and to provide a platform to them to come and see for themselves the benefits of solar power. Only those solar power companies that have been approved by the union government’s department of renewable energy will participate in this event,” a district official said.

The mela will be held in Apparel House in Sector 44, which is near Huda City Centre Metro station. “We have also asked all leading bankers to be a part of the mela so that they can explain consumers about the various subsidies being offered by the Union and state government on solar power,” the official said.

Authorities claimed that by installing solar panels, residents will not only get uninterrupted supply, but also notice a huge reduction in their power bill.

Information regarding the mela has been sent to resident welfare associations, private hospitals, schools, and industrial associations. There will also be a panel discussion in which consumers can participate. The panel will consist of experts from this field, including officials from National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE).
