Set up By Adani New Enterprises, Gujarat is the Site for India’s Tallest Wind Turbine

As part of its expansion aspirations for renewable energy, Adani New Industries Ltd has built India’s tallest wind turbine in Mundra, Gujarat that is taller than the Statue of Unity and has blades that are wider than the wingspan of a jumbo airplane.

According to a corporate statement, “Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) recently announced the installation of the largest wind turbine generator (WTG) in the nation in Mundra, Gujarat.”

This India’s tallest wind turbine was installed by Mundra Windtech Ltd (MWL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL). The corporation claims that this prototype, which is also Adani New Industries Ltd.’s (ANIL) first addition to its portfolio, has opened the door for the installation of even bigger wind turbine generators.

MWL’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Milind Kulkarni, stated, “The groundwork for another prototype that will be considerably taller than the 140 m hub height has been set by this one. In the future, we will produce our blades, and in our forthcoming plant in Mundra, we have already begun assembling Nacelle and Hub. The wind turbine, which is 200 meters tall and can power over 4,000 households with 5.2 MW of electricity, can generate. The Statue of Unity, which stands at 182 meters, and is the tallest in the world.”

It is the longest in the nation, with blades that are longer than a jumbo jet’s wingspan, at 78 meters. Its 160-meter-diameter rotor makes it the most powerful wind turbine in the world. The wind turbine generator’s hub height is 120 meters or roughly the height of a 40-story structure.

Over the past few years, the popularity of wind turbines has increased dramatically. Turbines of a capacity of 4 MW or more are typically installed offshore, where the machines can reach 14 MW in size. However, a 5.2 MW onshore turbine is extremely uncommon and is rarely found in India.

The company also said that the machine is a first and was constructed using German company W2E (Wind to Energy) technology. It can operate at wind speeds as low as 3 MPs and as high as 20 MPs, with 12 MPs or so being the wind speed at which it produces the most electricity.

When it comes to wind energy, the Indian state of Gujarat seems to be a highly preferred destination and has been consistently among the highest generators of this form of energy. As of June 2022, the State boasted of 9419.92 MW capacity of wind energy.
