The bottlenecks for the development of park are likely to be less as the state has already procured the land identified for the project. The project will be able to move at a rapid pace. Government officials also reportedly said that no separate environmental clearance would be required either. The solar park in Gujarat would be at par with the similar ones operational or under construction in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. The projects in these states have seen some of the lowest tariff bids in India’s solar power history. The concept of solar power park in India was introduced by the state of Gujarat. Even before the central government hold the first national-level solar power auction the state developed its Charanka solar park in Santanpur, Charanka. At the time of the inauguration of Charanka Solar Park, the operational capacity was 300 megawatts and was the largest solar park of the time. According to some reports, the capacity of the park could now be increased to around 700 Megawatts. With the cumulative capacity of 1,200 megawatts, Gujarat has already approved the development of two more solar parks in the state. All these developments in the field of solar energy are to fulfil the state’s capacity target of 7 gig watts by FY 20121-22.
