Recently we reported that Maharashtra has released its draft new electric vehicle (EV) Policy, and now the neighbouring state of Gujarat has followed suit with its EV Policy. The chief minister of Gujarat, Mr. Vijay Rupani through a live press conference released the Gujarat EV Policy 2021.

CM Rupani stressed on the environmental betterment from the new EV Policy. He said that there will be an increase in the use of EVs in the state with aiming to have around two lakh EVs on the roads, in the coming four years or 2025. The CM announced plans to make Gujarat a hub for manufacturing EVs and various related materials to encourage young startups and investors in the field of electric mobility. The state already has an advantage here with one of the best infra availability in the country.

According to the new policy, the state will be providing subsidy support double the amount of subsidies in any other state for EVs on per kilowatt basis over four years. Gujarat will provide up to Rs 20,000 subsidy on electric two-wheelers, 50 thousand for three-wheelers, and up to 1.5 lakh for four-wheelers. Also, the subsidy amount will be directly credited to bank accounts through DBT.

Currently, the state has around 278 charging stations for the charging of EVs. Under the new policy, CM announced the installation of 250 additional EV charging stations and provided a 25 percent capital subsidy with a limit of Rs. 10 lakh for charging stations, under the new EV Policy. Petrol pumps along with housing and commercial infrastructures will be approved for establishing/installing EV charging stations.

Gujarat government will encourage and give subsidies on EV purchases and the registration fee for the EVs will be exempted under the new EV policy for over four years.
