Gogoro, a battery swapping firm, has revealed that it has joined hands with HPCL in an initial agreement. The partnership will pave the way for the set up of battery swapping stations all over India in the near future.

HPCL is a government-owned oil marketing firm.

Under the agreement, Gogoro will establish an expansive network for battery swapping for electric two-wheelers. These will be deployed at HPCL’s retail outlets across India in the near future.

Gogoro’s tie-up with HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd), a government-controlled oil marketing company with more than 21,000 retail outlets, will involve the deployment of numerous Gogoro battery swapping stations at these retail outlets nationwide in the upcoming years.

“We are announcing a partnership with HPCL to roll out thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations across its retail outlets throughout the country in the coming years,” stated Horace Luke, the Founder & CEO at Gogoro. Amit Garg, Director of Marketing at HPCL added that Gogoro, has completed close to 500 million battery swaps so far, on the way creating a platform that HPCL can adopt and replicate.

The Taiwanese battery swapping giant, Gogoro, has been eyeing expansion in the Indian market. Some of its partnerships aiming at expansion in the country entail those with Swiggy, Hero Motocorp among others.

In April 2023, the battery-swapping ecosystem provider had made an entry into the Indian EV spectrum as it launched its battery-swapping platform and Smart scooters in Delhi NCR.
