GODI India Attains LFP BIS Certification For Indigenous Lithium-ion Cells By Manish Kumar/ Updated On Wed, Jan 17th, 2024 Highlights : GODI India said that it has become the first Indian firm to secure LFP BIS certification for its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Li-ion cells. GODI India Attains LFP BIS Certification For Indigenous Lithium-ion Cells GODI India Private Limited, a Hyderabad-headquartered lithium-ion cell R&D and manufacturer, today announced its groundbreaking achievement as the first Indian company to secure LFP BIS certification for its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Lithium-ion cells in the presence of the Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the World Economic Forum, Davos. “This noteworthy certification, confirming IS 16046 Part-2:2018 / IEC 62133-2:2017 standards, is a testament to GODI’s unwavering commitment to innovation in the realm of advanced energy storage devices for electric vehicle (EV) and renewable energy storage system (ESS) applications,” the firm said. GODI achieved this by developing India’s first in-house NMC811 cathode material-based Li-ion cells, BIS certified in mid-2022. Pioneering large Farad (2.7V-3000F) supercapacitors for surge power applications. GODI plans to set up large-scale indigenous GIGA scale cell manufacturing of NMC and LFP for EV, ESS, and Defense. Focusing on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) material for energy storage, GODI’s LFP cells, tested to IS 16046 Part-2:2018 / IEC 62133-2:2017 and IS-16893 (Part-2&3): 2018 / IEC 62660 standards, earned BIS and AIS certifications—a testament to technical prowess and shared success with investor Graphite India Limited. The firm is backed by Blue Ashva Capital and Graphite India Ltd. The recently certified LFP cells, esigned and tested in-house, signify a giant leap toward reducing India’s dependence on imported LFP batteries, it said. These LFP cells boast an energy density exceeding 150 Wh/kg, exceptional charge-discharge rates, and a service life surpassing 2000 cycles. Rigorous reliability and abuse tests confirm GODI’s cells’ intrinsic safety and durability, positioning the company as a trailblazer in domestic energy storage. Mahesh GODI, Founder and CEO, GODI India said, “Receiving LFP BIS certification is a monumental achievement. GODI aims to establish extensive indigenous manufacturing facilities for GIGA scale production of NMC & LFP cells, catering to the electric vehicle (EV), energy storage system (ESS), and defense sectors in India, Europe, and USA. We are already in discussion with several domestic and international OEMs. This certification validates our technical prowess and solidifies our commitment to a self-reliant and sustainable future for energy storage in India. We are already working with several Indian LFP material manufacturers, and confident to the localization of LFP cell manufacturing with 100% supply of raw materials within the Indian ecosystem in the coming 2- 3 years.” Tags: BIS, certification, company, First India, GODI India, Lithium ion
