Godi Energy Raises Funds to Set Up Li-ion Cell Manufacturing Facility By Soumya Duggal/ Updated On Thu, Jul 22nd, 2021 Highlights : The company has raised funds from Blue Ashva Capital to set up supercapacitor and lithium-ion cell manufacturing facilities in India. The company expects national demand for lithium-ion cells to reach 10 GWh this year and 800 GWh by the end of the decade. Godi Energy, a Hyderabad-based energy technology company, has announced that it has raised funds from Blue Ashva Capital, through its Blue Ashva Sampada fund, to set up supercapacitor and lithium-ion cell manufacturing facilities in India. Founded by Mahesh Godi, CEO of Godi India Pvt Ltd, the company focuses on R&D and manufacturing of sustainable energy technology products. Godi Energy aims to commercially manufacture advanced lithium-ion cells and supercapacitors and will continue to develop advanced materials with unique cell chemistries, superiorly engineered batteries, and supercapacitor cells, said the company. It forayed into the manufacturing of lithium-ion cells because of performance issues that arose from the imported cells, the firm added. “Our supercapacitors are engineered to deliver high pulse/short-term peak power. We also provide hybrid supercapacitors, enabling high voltage at the cell level. We extend solutions from cell to module level for fast charging, covering a wide range of applications in automotive, renewable energy, and strategic sectors for regenerative braking, short-term storage and burst-power delivery,” says the company. India Planning Bids for 4 GWh of Grid-Scale Battery Storage System Also Read “To maintain a competitive price per cell, many battery packs and EV OEMs import low-grade cells that do not perform efficiently in Indian climatic and driving conditions. Moreover, during sea shipping under uncontrolled storage conditions, these cells often suffer from electrolyte leakage leading to corrosion, increased internal resistance, and safety concerns,” GODI Energy stated. Siemens to Build 100 MW Battery Storage Facility in Germany Also Read The company, which expects national demand for lithium-ion cells to reach 10 GWh this year and 800 GWh by the end of the decade, said, “To keep up with this demand, battery packs and EV OEMs are currently importing cells from various countries. These cells have several issues related to performance, safety, and cost.” Last month, Li-ion battery storage solutions provider Ruchira Green Earth announced the launch of its new range of eco-friendly Li-ion electric vehicle batteries under its flagship brand ‘AKIRA’. The EV batteries are available in a wide range of models in two-wheelers and three-wheeler power categories and are equipped with the “cutting-edge latest technology” and easy-to-install features. The battery range encompasses E-Auto Batteries, E-Scooter Batteries, and E-Cycle Batteries. “We provide advanced battery technologies from cell to pack level, with high energy and power densities (Li-ion Batteries, Na-ion Batteries, All Solid-State Batteries) for a variety of applications across automobiles, consumer electronics, renewable energy storage, and strategic sectors,” says Godi Energy.
