With its entry into Germany, the firm has expanded its European presence to ten countries. Germany has set itself the ambition of 215 GW of solar by 2030. Currently, the figure stands at just 66.5 GW. By 2030, the country is looking to meet 80% of its electricity demand from wind and solar by the end of the decade. Lightsource BP maintains that it can make a significant impact on the German electricity market while adding that the firm has added projects rather rapidly in the countries of France, Poland, Portugal and Greece in the last few years. The firm has its eyes firmly on achieving 300 MW to 400 MW of solar capacity in Germany annually. Nick Boyle, Chief Executive of Lightsource BP said about the energy transition in Germany, “Germany needs the power transition and the recent decisions by Economics Minister Robert Habeck can ensure the right framework conditions. Lightsource BP works and thinks in gigawatts and have launched corresponding projects very quickly and reliably in many other European countries.” He added, “This is now also our ambition for Germany – as a reliable partner for municipalities, landowners and energy companies who are just as ready as we are to deliver on a large scale.” This month, the firm received the environmental go-ahead for 19 solar power projects having total cumulative capacity of 1620 MW. Lightsource bp also recently placed an order for 4 GW of advanced thin film solar modules with module maker First Solar.
