Gensol Emerges as L1 in NHPC Green Hydrogen Mobility Station Tender By Namrata Gulati Sapra/ Updated On Thu, Nov 16th, 2023 Highlights : Gensol is set to develop a 500-kW grid-connected, ground-mounted solar power project that will provide energy to the hydrogen refueling station. GH2 Solar Bags SECI Tender for 105 MW Electrolyser Manufacturing Gensol Engineering Ltd., a firm that delves in the renewable energy and electric mobility sectors, has been identified as the lowest bidder for Engineering, Procurement and Commissioning (EPC) contract for a green hydrogen-based mobility station in Kargil, Ladakh. The NHPC mobility station tender was released in June, 2023. Gensol has emerged as the lower bidder for the NHPC mobility station tender in partnership with Matrix Gas & Renewables Ltd. (Matrix), a natural gas aggregator and hydrogen infrastructure developer. The project, to be commissioned by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC), is aimed at operating buses powered by hydrogen fuel cells within the region. This initiative is in line with the government’s ambitious targets for green hydrogen energy. Gensol is set to develop a 500-kW grid-connected, ground-mounted solar power project that will provide energy to the hydrogen refueling station. Matrix will oversee the Engineering, Procurement, and Commissioning of dual electrolysers, each with a capacity of 30 NM3. The scope of work includes the entire balance of plant EPC encompassing the green hydrogen system installation, storage, and dispensing facilities, in addition to the requisite civil and electrical infrastructure for the integrated solar and hydrogen operation in Ladakh. This project spans the complete green hydrogen supply chain. Gensol shall ensure that the project for NHPC boasts a minimum green hydrogen purity of 99.97%. It is slated for completion within 12 months from the issuance of the work order. Cabinet Approves Plan For 13 GW Of Renewable Project In Ladakh Also Read Chirag Kotecha, Whole-time Director, Matrix Gas and Renewables Limited, stated, “The forthcoming Green Hydrogen-based mobility station pilot project will establish the technical and commercial feasibility of green hydrogen. This initiative will pave the way for scaling up to larger projects and will contribute significantly to India’s energy security.” SECI Issues Tender for Soil Investigation for 13 GW Renewable Energy Project Sites in Leh Also Read Established in 2012, Gensol Engineering Limited forms an integral part of the Gensol group, providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for solar power plant development. Last July, NHPC had announced the signing of two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for the establishment of ‘Pilot Green Hydrogen Technologies’ in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh. A Pilot Green Hydrogen fuel cell-based Microgrid including Hydrogen production would be covered under the initiative. India has set itself some major green hydrogen goals. These include at least 5 MMT/annum green hydrogen capacity, a domestic electrolyzer manufacturing target of 60-100 GW capacity by 2030. This is 7.5-12.5 times more than even the global electrolyzer manufacturing capacity of 8 GW in 2021 (IEA, 2022). The government has also announced a target for reduction of green hydrogen production costs – less than US$2.5/kg by 2025 and US$1/kg by 2030.
