Hithium & Perfect Power Join Forces for 1 GWh Energy Storage UK-based Varco Energy, an owner of energy storage, has selected GE Vernova to supply battery along with related equipment for a 57 MW (138 megawatt-hour) transmission-connected battery near Liverpool, United Kingdom. The Native River project will begin construction this quarter and will be linked to the grid early next year. GE Vernova will be responsible for providing the complete battery energy storage system (BESS) for the project. The project will entail modular units of GE Vernova’s FLEXInverter, FLEXReservoir and FlexIQ solutions. These will be augmented to keep pace with project capacity as well as offer balancing and capacity services to the national grid. The firm will also look into the operation and maintenance services. “BESS are critical infrastructure to help balance the intermittent nature of renewable energy generation and break the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels,” stated James Mills, Director of Varco Energy.
