GE Renewable Energy to Install Turbines at 100MW Wind Farm in Gujarat

Paris-based GE Renewable Energy on Thursday said that it will supply, install, and commission 37 wind turbines to a 99.90-megawatt (MW) wind power project in Gujarat, managed by Indian renewable energy group Continuum Green Energy.

According to the official press release, the wind farm project will provide local businesses and consumers with clean energy.

“We look forward to furthering our partnership as Continuum continues to expand their renewable energy portfolio… We have secured over 1.2 GW orders in India last year,” said Deepak Maloo, regional sales leader for GE Renewable Energy’s Onshore Wind International in Asia Pacific.

Last year, GE Renewable Energy and Continuum Green Energy signed an agreement to supply turbines to the 148.5-MW Morjar, Bhuj wind farm in Gujarat, India. Continuum has a total capacity of 1,300 MW.

Founded in 2009, Continuum claims to have a portfolio of capacity more than 3.7 GW, comprising 851.4 MW of operational capacity, 448.5 MW of under construction, 1,352.0 MW of ready for construction sites, and an additional 1,080.0 MW under development.

Continuum Green Energy owns and operates India’s first large scale 226.8 MW wind-solar co-located hybrid project in Tamil Nadu and is in the process of building its next 240.0 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Gujarat, states the company.

“Synergies in Continuum’s development capabilities and GE’s capabilities in manufacturing and delivering turbines on time will bring great value to our projects,” said Arvind Bansal, CEO for Continuum Green Energy.

Continuum Green Energy is majority-owned by North Haven Infrastructure Partners, a US $4 bn Global Infrastructure Investment Fund managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners that focuses on long-term investments in infrastructure assets across the globe.

GE’s latest project will leverage its significant local footprint in India with product design taking place primarily at the company’s Bengaluru center, blades being manufactured in its plants in Vadodara and assembly occurring at its manufacturing facility in Pune, said the company.
