Govt To Electrify 1L Unelectrified Tribal Households With Off-Grid Solar A recent report released by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) exhorted the G20 countries to take steps towards mainstreaming distributed renewable energy (DRE). The report was released on the sidelines of the 14th Clean Ministerial (CEM) in Goa. The report identified and collated the emerging good practices to mainstream DRE solutions. The researchers at CEEW selected 27 DRE technologies from five continents and 22 countries. The report batted for making DRE the centre of just and inclusive energy transitions. It claimed that as it emerged as a resilient and cost-effective approach to achieving energy access, it deserved attention. “DRE should no longer be looked upon as a last-mile energy access solution but should be leveraged as a reliable and sustainable approach to meet energy needs for overall socio-economic development, furthering industries, agriculture, healthcare, education and job creation,” the report said. It also said that public financing for DRE must address the ecosystem-level needs of the technology. This includes needs like skilling, capacity building, raising awareness, supporting technology innovation, and more. “The emerging lessons highlight the need for more active knowledge sharing across countries. G20 should strengthen its support for mainstreaming DRE solutions across the globe by furthering avenues for active knowledge sharing among private and public sector stakeholders across countries,” the report said. “DRE is an efficient and cost-effective solution for achieving a just, inclusive and universal energy access. The compendium report’s findings will equip practitioners (both in public and private sector) with emerging good practices to mainstream DRE solutions. In addition to enabling DRE deployment for SDG 7, these replicable and actionable lessons can help accelerate the impacts on health, education, and livelihoods, among others,” Wase Khalid, Programnme Associate from CEEW said.
