EV Policy Announcement saw Share of EVs in Delhi Rise to 2.2% In 3 Months: DDC By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, Mar 19th, 2021 The share of EVs in Delhi has increased from less than 1% to 2.2% in 3 months after the Delhi EV Policy was launched, per DDC Vice-Chairperson. In a webinar hosted by the Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC), DDC vice-chairperson Jasmine Shah announced that the share of electric vehicles (EVs) in the city has increased from less than 1 percent to 2.2 percent in three months after the announcement of the EV policy by the Delhi government. Speaking at a webinar on the role of the corporate sector in creating and enabling an ecosystem for EVs in Delhi, Shah appealed to the corporates to switch their fleet to EV, install charging stations on their premises, and adopt such stations as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive. The webinar was hosted in association with WRI India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as part of the ‘Switch Delhi‘ EV mass awareness campaign. Besides, he appreciated the government’s decision to switch its entire vehicle fleet to electric in six months and said that no government in the world has set such a hard deadline for itself to lead by example. Shah added, “I am glad to tell you all that since the launch of Delhi’s Electric Vehicle policy in August 2020, the share of electric vehicles in the national capital has gone up from 0.2 percent to 2.21 percent in the last three months. Also, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia spoke in the house earlier this month while presenting the Budget that In the last three months, 2,621 EVs were purchased out of a total of 1,18482 vehicle sales in Delhi. Recently, the government announced providing scrapping incentives, including up to Rs 7,500 per vehicle for auto and light commercial vehicles, under Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2020.
