Emmvee Opens 5th Solar Module Plant, Lifts Capacity To 6.6 GWp

Indian solar manufacturer Emmvee has opened its fifth module manufacturing facility at Sulibele, near Bengaluru International Airport, adding 2 GWp of photovoltaic (PV) module capacity. With the latest expansion, the company’s total PV module capacity now stands at 6.6 GWp, while solar cell capacity has reached 2.5 GWp.

The 400,000-square-foot facility will employ more than 500 people across engineering, senior management, operations, and administrative roles. The company’s total workforce now exceeds 2,000 employees.

“The new plant not only expands capacity but also integrates advanced automation, multi-level quality control, and flexibility to produce various module formats,” said Suhas Donthi, President and CEO of Emmvee.

Chairman and Managing Director D.V. Manjunatha said the new facility underlines the company’s commitment to supporting India’s renewable energy targets and solar manufacturing self-reliance.

Emmvee Previous Expansions And Industry Standing

In 2023, Emmvee launched a fully automated solar cell and module manufacturing unit in Dabaspet, Karnataka, spanning 500,000 square feet. The unit is located adjacent to the company’s 750 MW module facility.

Emmvee is among India’s leading solar manufacturers, along with Tata Power, Waaree Energies, ReNew, Goldi Solar, Mundra Solar (Adani), and First Solar. It also features among a group of nine key solar cell producers in India, alongside Premier Energies, Websol, Jupiter International, Adani Solar, and others. Waaree Energies recently began solar cell production at its plant in Gujarat and is planning further backward integration in Odisha.

According to data shared by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, India currently has approximately 25 GW of installed solar PV cell manufacturing capacity. The figures were released by the Solar PV Manufacturers Association, the All India Solar Industries Association (AISIA), and the North India Module Manufacturers Association (NIMMA).

As per the data, the nine major companies and their solar cell capacities are: First Solar (3.2 MW), Waaree Energies (5.4 MW), Tata/TP Solar (4.6 MW), Adani Solar (4.0 MW), Emmvee Photovoltaics (2.5 MW), Premier Energies (2.0 MW), ReNew Power (2.0 MW), Jupiter International (0.9 MW), and Websol (0.6 MW).
