E.ON Commissions 201 MW Wind Farm in Texas By Ayush Verma/ Updated On Fri, Aug 9th, 2019 E.ON has successfully opened its Stella Wind Farm, a 201 MW project in Kenedy County in Texas. German energy utility firm E.ON has announced that it has successfully opened its Stella Wind Farm, a 201 MW project located in Kenedy County in Texas. “In addition to creating high-paying local jobs, the Stella Wind Farm will generate more than USD 25 million in local community benefits over the life of the project in the Kenedy County area,” said Silvia Ortin, chief operating officer, North America and E.ON Climate & Renewables Board Member. “This additional revenue will support essential county services and local schools.” The wind farm consists of 67 3-MW turbines built by Nordex and came online in December 2018. The project represents an investment of more than $200 million in the county. Approximately 300 construction jobs were created to bring the project online and local contractors spent more than USD 12 million on local products and services. In April, E.On had announced that the Cranell Windfarm, a 220 megawatt (MW) project, located in Refugio County, Texas, is under construction and it expects to commission the project before the end of 2019. The project, located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) south market, is powered by 100 Vestas V120 turbines and will generate enough electricity to power more than 66,000 homes. In July, in what is being termed as UK’s biggest switch towards green energy, E.ON switched its three million UK customers to energy from 100 percent renewable sources at no extra cost. E.ON will have to buy renewable energy certificates from the UK government to guarantee that a group’s electricity comes from renewable energy. E.ON chief executive Michael Lewis said at the time that “first of all, this is what customers want, but we also want to send a signal to the wholesale market that we want to drive uptake of renewable energy.” Tags: 201 MW, 201 MW Wind Texas, Clean Energy, E.ON., green energy, International, Renewable Energy, USA, wind power, Wind Texas
