Delhi LG Suspends State's Solar Policy, Accuses AAP; 'CM Lying', Says LG

A month after Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced the new solar policy for the national capital, LG Vinai Kumar Saxena has suspended its implementation, as per several media reports citing AAP sources. AAP also alleged that the LG is obstructing the implementation of the policy till the Model Code of Conduct comes into force to delay its implementation in the state.

Meanwhile, reports in the media also claimed that the LG House has trashed such claims by the AAP accusing the Delhi CM of “habitually lying”. Further, according to media reports citing LG House sources, the LG office has not halted the policy and has only sought clarification on whether the policy aligns with the capital subsidy from the Indian government. LG House has also alleged that the policy does not seem to reduce electricity bills to zero and favours private power firms.

Under the Delhi Solar Policy 2024, people installing rooftop solar panels at home were supposed to get generation-based incentives. The new policy is an amendment to the State Solar Policy 2016. On January 29, the Delhi government formulated the Delhi Solar Policy 2024, which ensures zero electricity bills but also allows them to earn by installing solar panels on the rooftops of their houses. Making amendments to State Solar Policy 2016 that resulted in 1500 MW of solar power installed capacity in Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has come out with a more consumer-friendly Solar Policy 2024 that will provide 4,500 megawatts of installed capacity of solar power in Delhi by 2027.
