Delhi Govt Allocates Rs 50cr For PM Surya Ghar ‘Top Up’ By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Tue, Mar 25th, 2025 Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today presented her maiden budget for the Union Territory. In her speech before the State Assembly, the CM talked about making the region self-sufficient in energy. She also talked about boosting the growth of solar energy in the state through the new Delhi Budget. In her speech, Gupta talked about infusing around Rs 50 crore from the state budget to support the PM Surya Ghar. The CM, although did not talk much about the allocation said that the UT will ‘top up’ to the central government scheme, hinting at additional state support for the rooftop solar consumers in the state. “The Delhi government is in the process of signing a MoU with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of the Central Government to implement the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ in Delhi. Under this scheme, a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 will be provided to the residential consumers of Delhi,” she said in her Budget speech. State Support Under PM Surya Ghar The CM also added, “To make this initiative more effective, my government is proposed a new scheme called ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme – State Top Up’, for which a budget of ₹50 crore has been allocated. Under this scheme, 2.3 lakh residential rooftops will be equipped with solar energy in the next three years.” She also talked about boosting the electricity supply in the region through a thrust from government policies and budgetary support. “The Delhi government is committed to providing uninterrupted and affordable electricity to every citizen of the capital. This budget is an important step towards making Delhi self-reliant in the field of energy and a clean future,” she said. ₹3,847 crore For Power Sector The CM said that the Delhi government has earmarked a budget of ₹3,847 crore to the Power Department for various schemes and projects. “ My government aims to provide 24-hour uninterrupted electricity to every citizen of Delhi. To meet the increasing demand for electricity and support the economic growth of the capital, it is necessary to increase domestic power generation from clean/ renewable energy sources,” Gupta remarked.
