The company recently won a tender from NTPC for a 700 MW wind-solar hybrid project at the tariff of Rs 3.38 per unit. The company which has earlier taken up renewable project development works from NTPC, SJVN and others is now keen to go for storage projects, including Battery Energy Storage Projects. “We have decided to bid for the PSP and hydro projects soon. We are likely to start bidding for these projects from next quarter. This comes at a time when we are already looking aggressively to participate in hybrid renewable energy projects,” Varchasvi Gagal, MD and CEO of Datta Power Infra told Saur Energy. The company till now has tried its hands with power transmission line projects, solar, hybrid and other such projects. It also worked under the PM-KUSUM scheme to boost the growth of solar energy in rural India. When asked about the main challenges in hybrid projects, he said that the feasibility of solar and wind projects on a single site had been a challenge for such projects. The interest of Datta Power Infra in PSP comes at a time when the Union government is giving special thrust to the storage projects and aiding in the growth of the firm and dispatchable renewable energy. With the latest push for storage projects, several renewable project developers like Adani Green, Greenko and others have planned to try their hands at these projects. Although the construction period for PSPs are higher than BESS, several firms have been on the spree to catch the new energy bus. NTPC Limited has also planned to spur the growth of PSPs through its subsidiaries. The entry of Datta Power Infra and other renewable project developers are likely to boost the firm capacity of renewables and augment in handling the issues of India’s peak demand.
