CPSU REC Ties Up with TajSATS to Feed Medical Staff Serving amid Covid-19 By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Tue, May 26th, 2020 Navratna Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) REC Ltd has joined hands with TajSATS (a joint venture of IHCL and SATS Ltd) to feed the frontline healthcare workers, through collaborative efforts, in key government hospitals as well as poor daily wage labourers on pan India. REC Ltd, formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd, is mainly focusing on the power sector financing and development across the country. Further, the power sector financer through its CSR arm, REC Foundation, has distributed specially-made nutritious meal packets for medical staff in Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. This is in line with REC Ltd’s announcement in April 2020, that via its CSR arm REC Foundation, it had sanctioned Rs 7 crore in a step to speed up the relief work amidst lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The company has now decided to continue until the norms last. Through this initiative, more than 18,000 meals will be delivered in New Delhi, it added. Besides this, REC in collaboration with several other power distribution companies (Discoms), district authorities, and NGOs is already providing cooked meals and ration to the needy across the country. Now, it has distributed over 4.58 lacs kg of food grains, 1.26 lac meal packets, 9,600 litres of sanitizers, 3,400 PPE kits and 83,000 masks as of May 24, 2020. Meanwhile, REC is also the nodal agency for Govt. of India flagship schemes launched for the power sector like Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Saubhagya. Apart from this, it provides financial assistance across the power sector value chain. Earlier, concerned over the plight of daily wagers, the Navratna NBFC also said that more such funds are already in the pipeline for this purpose.
