China’s Windey Wins O&M Project for Serbia’s Wind Farm of 100 MW Capacity

China-based manufacturer of wind turbines, Zhejiang Windey, has bagged a contract with Serbia’s leading Independent Power Producer Fintel Energija. The Chinese manufacturer will look into the delivery, assembly along with the maintenance of the wind turbines for wind farm projects with a cumulative capacity of 110 MW. The value of the pact has remained undisclosed.

The agreement makes way for the supply of turbines for phase two of the Kosava project. The Kula 2,3 and 4 projects, which are located in northern Serbia and the RAM project established in eastern Serbia will also be supplied as a part of the deal. In total, the Chinese manufacturer will supply 28 turbines for the projects. These will entail 19 WD164 3.6 MW turbines, along with three WD 164 3.3 MW turbines and finally, six WD172 5 MW turbines.

As furnished by the agreement, Windey will also provide maintenance services to the wind farm for a period of ten years. This will see Windey start a new local service arm, the headquarters of which will be in Belgrade.

“This highlights our ability to build value in our portfolio projects, by advancing them to more mature stages and higher valuations,” stated Fintel Energija CEO Tiziano Giovannetti.

Fintel Energija is a subsidiary of  Italy-based energy firm  Fintel Energia Group. Currently, the firm has three wind farms operating in Serbia with ten more wind projects in the pipeline for establishment in the country. The firm has also forged a partnership with Serbia’s diversified holding MK Group and a part of these assets are owned through it.

In 2021, Windey joined hands with Tibetan firm Three Gorges Tibet Energy Investment Co.,Ltd. for the assembly of a wind farm set up in Zhegu Town, Comai County, Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, at the northern foot of the Himalayas, with an altitude of 5139.1 m. The firm also launched its series of offshore wind turbines (“Sea Wind Series”) in the same year.

Several reports claim that China’s wind turbines, that are already cheap and below the global average, are set to become cheaper in 2023.
