China’s Dajin Offshore Heavy Industry has announced that it has signed a contract for the UK’s Moray West Offshore Wind Farm for the manufacturing and supply of ‘XXL monopoles.’ The monopiles will be one of the largest to be installed so far in the world and Dajin will supply it. Dajin has also declared that it plans to open a manufacturing facility in Europe as well. Monopiles are steel tubes that are driven into the sea bed, a vital component and equipment for the offshore wind industry. The monopiles reach almost 2000 tonnes, 10m diameter and support the wind industry suffering from bottlenecks on fabrication capacity compounded with current steel crisis in Europe, said Dajin in its official statement. According to Dajin, the scope of work is for the supply of 48 monopiles and the steel cutting for the first monopile production has already started. The company has developed European Project Management Team that works hand-in-hand with Moray West and Chinese teams. The company is expanding with local content contribution investments into Europe. Daijin also has an agreement for delivery of monopiles into European Union and offshore structures for United States project. Dajin says that it has acquired and is now developing a new 100h fabrication yard in South of China. It is also planning a foundation facility in Europe. Dajin informed that after the completion of both facilities, Dajin Heavy Industry will achieve an annual production capacity with 2 million tons. The new facilities will focus on the foundation production for next generation turbines called ‘Tripple XL Monopiles’ as well jackets and floating foundations.
