China-Based Gotion to Foray into Japanese Market Following Agreement with Edison Power

China-based manufacturer of lithium-ion power batteries Gotion High-tech has joined hands with Edison Power Co., a renewable energy and energy storage developer, for the development of large storage battery and recycling market in Japan. This partnership will also mark the entry of Gotion into Japan.

Gotion High-tech will be responsible for the supply of cells, modules, Battery Management System, etc., Edison Power, on the other hand, will delve into customer management, EPC services, the operation and maintenance of energy storage system.

It may be recalled that Japan’s Electricity Business Act introduced in May last year, has given an impetus to large storage battery industry in the country, adding new opportunities.

The two firms will together look into the development of market strategies. They have set a goal of 1 GWh worth of sales for the first year. This will be gradually increased to 2 GWh per year.

The partnership will also pave the way for Gotion High-Tech will to set up a circular storage battery recycling system in the country.

China’s Gotion delves into development as well as production of power batteries. It claims to be the first power battery firm in China to mark entry into its capital market. The firm also deals with businesses in new energy like EV batteries, energy storage applications, transmission and distribution equipment. Currently, it boasts of more than 14 gigascale battery manufacturing bases all over the world. The firm has five battery materials-based businesses that cover the entire battery supply chain. In addition to this, it also has a battery recycling business.

A renewable energy solutions firm, Edison Power is a developer and manufacturer of storage battery system. The firm is is looking into the development of a solar power generation business.
