Chandigarh Admin Extends Deadline by 6 Months For Solar Installation

The decision came in the backdrop of request by residents of the city who had asked for extension for the administration. The records in the Chandigarh administration show that around 1300 residents have either showed their willingness to install solar panels or are willing to install them.

Residents of the Chandigarh can take a sigh of relief for next 6 months as administration is extending the deadline for installation of rooftop solar panels on the houses of 1 or more kanal in the city.

The decision came in the backdrop of request by residents of the city who had asked for extension for the administration.

The records in the Chandigarh administration show that around 1300 residents have either showed their willingness to install solar panels or are willing to install them.

Earlier in 18 May 2016, the Chandigarh administration issued a notification which made installation of rooftop solar compulsory for houses having more an area of more than 1 Kanal.

Given the fact that new houses already have the condition to install solar panels the old houses were given time of two years to install them, the time that ended on 18 of this month. Those among old houses who have not complied with the order are liable to get notices from the estate office of Chandigarh.

However, the residents of the city had written to administration requesting for time extension. “After receiving the request, senior officers held a meeting and it was decided there that since the focus on the solar panels is a priority and most of the people are not much aware of the same, the deadline to install the panels should be extended, said a senior official.

“Moreover, the target is to involve public in this initiative rather than penalise them. An official order in this regard will be issued in the coming week,” he added.
