Capgemini Partners Equigy For European Decentralised Energy System In order to better manage the supply and demand of electricity throughout Europe, Capgemini and Equigy have signed a long-term deal to establish a new decentralized energy system. The goal of this project is to create a crowd-balancing platform (CBP), which is a reliable, standardized data aggregator interface for integrating modest, adaptable, and dispersed energy resources. Supporting the shift to a low-carbon economy is the aim. Six of the top European Transmission System Operators (TSOs)—Austrian Power Grid, TenneT Germany, TenneT Netherlands, Terna, TransnetBW, and Swissgrid—formed the pan-European platform Equigy. To handle the difficulty of integrating intermittent and variable renewable energy sources like solar and wind that strain grid stability, these TSOs created Equigy. By facilitating the smooth involvement of small-scale distributed energy resources like household batteries and electric cars, the platform seeks to increase flexibility. Martin van ‘t Verlaat, Chief Technology Officer at Equigy, emphasised the importance of this collaboration: “At Equigy, we are committed to fostering collaboration and innovation in the energy sector to accelerate the energy transition towards a more sustainable future. Collaborating with a leading business and technology transformation partner like Capgemini will enable us to develop a state-of-the-art platform that empowers stakeholders to participate in grid balancing and strengthens trust and transparency.” The agreement is expected to provide new revenue opportunities for energy users and owners of renewable energy assets, as well as increased energy efficiency for TSOs and a wide range of stakeholders throughout Europe. The alliance supports European goals to advance economic growth and drive the energy transition by encouraging digital innovation, cross-border cooperation, and sustainable energy practices. The platform will be developed using Capgemini’s vast experience in the energy and utilities sectors along with its business and technological transformation capabilities. By reducing reliance on conventional centralized power plants, this partnership seeks to minimize the requirement for costly peak generation capacity. Europe will have a more adaptable, efficient, and sustainable energy system as a result. Tags: Capgemini, Equigy, Swissgrid, TransnetBW
