BYD Set To Build A New 30 GWH Sodium-Ion Battery Facility In China Chinese automotive company BYD has announced building a new sodium-ion battery facility in Xuzhou. With an investment of nearly USD 1.4 billion, the new facility is projected to generate an annual capacity of 30 GWh. BYD which stands for ‘Build Your Dream’ it’s a Chinese multinational conglomerate specializing in various industries, including electric vehicles, researchable batteries, information technology and more. BYD’s sodium – ion batteries produced at the facility will be used for electric vehicles (EVs), particularly micro vehicles and scooters. The ceremony was held on January 4th in Xuzhou Economic Technological Development Zone. The facility is part of BYD’s plan to diversify its energy storage solution. In Shenzen last November, BYD and Huaihai Group signed an agreement to build Xuzhou sodium battery plant. The partnership is expected to transform Xuzhou into battery production hub and will capitalise on the suitability of sodium-ion batteries for small EV’s BYD initiative is a major boost for sodium ion industry and could pave the way for wider adoption of this technology. BYD’s tryst with India Last year, BYD, a Chinese electric car manufacturer financed by Warren Buffet, debuted its first passenger car in India: an electric sport-utility vehicle (SUV). This marked BYD’s entry into the mainstream market as part of a larger global expansion. BYD, which currently offers electric buses and vehicles (EVs) for corporate fleets in India, unveiled the Atto 3 electric SUV in the fourth-largest auto market in the world, where Tata Motors dominates sales of electric automobiles. It comes with the well-known Blade battery technology from BYD.
