BSES Rajdhani Wins IGSF Gold Innovation Award for Rooftop Solar Automation

Power distributer BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has won the Gold Innovation award, presented by The India Smart Grid Forum (IGSF). The power distributor of over 2.4 million customers spread over 21 districts in South and West Delhi has won the award for automation of rooftop solar workflow in their territory.

Interestingly, 3,000 customers out of 2.4 million have installed rooftop solar systems. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited partnered with ENACT SYSTEMS in 2019. The Enact platform helps the BRPL distributed energy team to manage customer onboarding, rooftop solar project approval, and processing of solar net metering approvals, working closely with BRPL-approved solar installers across New Delhi.

ENACT a digital platform for solar projects is actively used by thousands of users in North America, the Middle-East, and South Asia, in 15+ country markets, with over USD 1 billion of solar projects processed annually. ENACT offers a two-sided platform, allows both providers to automate renewable energy asset development as well as end-customers to manage their assets.

Rooftop solar generation by consumers in Delhi has crossed 100 MW now, with over 3,000 net metering connections, and rapid growth projected ahead. According to Delhi Solar policy, the solar power generation potential is estimated to be around 2,500 MWp. BRPL Rooftop Solar

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) is a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure Limited and Govt of NCT of Delhi with a 51:49 percent shareholding. BRPL, along with its sister company BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), supplies electricity to over two-thirds of the national capital. Also, the company claims that in the next financial year (FY 21-22), the two Discoms in BPRL and BYPL are aiming to energize over 1000 rooftop solar connections.

According to the data provided by BSES, the highest number of rooftop solar net metering connections are in the domestic segment (1805), followed by educational institutions (655), commercial establishments (554), industrial (35), and others (91).

Recently in January 2021, BSES Discoms in the National Capital claimed to have energized 3140 rooftop solar installations with a connected solar load of 106 MWp.
