Bihar DISCOMs Issue Tender for 275 MW Rooftop Solar Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Bihar ranks among the states with one of the lowest installation levels under the scheme, with a total of 54,973 applications, resulting in an installed capacity of 51.33 MW. The company has sought bids for this project until January 29, 2026.

South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), Bihar’s power distribution utility, has issued a tender seeking online bids from eligible and experienced agencies, firms, companies, and state or central government undertakings to develop grid-connected 275 MW rooftop solar projects. Bids are open until January 29, 2026.

Bihar is among the states with one of the lowest installation levels under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme has so far received 54,973 applications and recorded 14,283 installations, achieving 51.33 MW of installed capacity, with the release of ₹102.27 crore in subsidies.

This places Bihar alongside other poorly performing states such as Punjab, which has recorded 10,792 installations and added 49.02 MW of capacity to date, having received ₹76.6 crore in subsidies. Bihar's numbers account for less than 1% of the applications, and under 0.75% of installations so far, while accounting for over 9% of India's population.

South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), a Government of Bihar undertaking, issued this tender on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and SBPDCL. The project will have an individual plant capacity starting from 1.1 kW, covering up to 2.5 lakh Kutir Jyoti households.

About The Tender

Bids will be located across nine circles of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) and nine circles of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL), under the CAPEX plus RESCO mode in the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY-MBY).

SBPDCL has issued the tender on behalf of SBPDCL and NBPDCL under the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana (ULA Model) for the selection of solar power developers to develop a 275 MW solar project in South and North Bihar. The tender covers projects under both CAPEX and RESCO modes. The latest tender could open up opportunities for solar developers, EPC companies, and RESCO players.
