Bhilai Steel Plant To Setup Solar Plant In Its Township By Akash Dhiman/ Updated On Thu, May 16th, 2024 Highlights : The project is planned to produce about 34.26 million units of green power yearly and will be led by SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) Bhilai Steel Plant To Setup Solar Plant In Its Township The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) flagship plant, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), plans to increase its green energy efforts by putting in solar power systems throughout its township and grounds. To carry out solar power generation projects, BSP and the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) have inked a memorandum of agreement. With the goal of producing about 3 MW of electricity, the project included the installation of rooftop solar energy systems on a variety of plant and residential buildings. The project is planned to produce about 34.26 million units of green power yearly and will be led by SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), which is located in the Durg area. The plant will only use this energy as captive power, which will significantly lower carbon emissions. An estimated 28,330 tons less CO2 could be released annually by BSP as a result of the initiative. BSP has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC-SAIL Power Supply Company Limited (NSPCL) for a 15 MW floating solar plant in the Maroda-1 reservoir in addition to the rooftop installations. The completion of this ground-breaking project is slated for the following year, making it the first of its sort in Chhattisgarh. An estimated 34.26 million units of green power will be produced yearly by the floating solar plant, which BSP would use as captive power to reduce its carbon impact and support renewable energy sources. Additionally, BSP has suggested building a second, 35 MW floating solar power plant in the Maroda-2 reservoir. The comprehensive project report is ready, and the bidding procedure will start soon. The two phases of the solar projects are scheduled for completion by the end of 2027 and 2025, respectively. The plant and the neighborhood will profit from the electricity produced by these projects, which will be fed into the power system. BSP’s commitment to energy saving and sustainable development is demonstrated by its use of renewable energy. Tags: Bhilai Steel Plant, India, SAIL, Solar Plant
