BHEL Gears Up to Fight against Coronavirus Pandemic By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Mon, Apr 6th, 2020 Amid the ongoing crisis due to coronavirus pandemic in the country, state-owned power generation equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) said that it has now geared up to offer assistance in whatever way possible to India’s determination in combating this calamity. The New Delhi based engineering and manufacturing company said that it will keep stepping up its efforts in this direction. In order to bolster the fight against this unprecedented medical emergency, the company has transferred a total sum of Rs 15.72 crore to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund). It includes a contribution of Rs 7 crore from BHEL itself through its CSR funds, while its employees have donated their one-day salary towards this cause. The company, which is the country’s largest power generation equipment manufacturer, has now developed a disinfection chamber. It’s Ranipet unit has developed in-house a spray assembly that atomizes the sanitizing liquid and can be used for mass sanitization for combating the Coronavirus. It consumes comparatively less liquid. This spray assembly has been named BHELMISTER and has been donated to the local administration of Ranipet for sanitizing the whole town on a mass scale. BHEL has shared this design with all other units of the company so that it can be adapted and used by them as well. It is now being used in the Vellore city in Tamil Nadu as well. Besides disinfection chamber, the company’s plants at Tiruchirappalli, Haridwar, Bhopal and Jhansi, have also made in-house hand sanitizers, for distribution and use at their local BHEL hospitals, dispensaries and also for distribution to the security personnel and essential services staff. The company also said that its Jhansi unit has made in-house 3-ply masks in order to meet the requirement of the unit’s hospital, guest house, security guards and employees working under essential services.
