BEST to Set up World’s First Thermal Battery Plant By Anirudh Sharma/ Updated On Tue, Aug 7th, 2018 World’s first thermal battery plant in Andhra Pradesh would manufacture thermal batteries which would supply power for a longer duration than the Lithium-ion battery. Leading power storage service provider, Bharat Energy Storage Technology (BEST) has revealed setting up a thermal battery plant in Andhra Pradesh. Considered as a great addition, world’s first thermal battery plant would manufacture thermal batteries which would supply power for a longer duration than the Lithium-ion battery. The battery manufactured is expected to have wide range of applications like the telecommunication, commercial establishments, electric vehicles and highway charging stations. Further, these thermal batteries are not based upon the cycles of charging and discharging taking place when the electric charge flow through the battery like it does in the Lithium-ion battery. On the other hand, thermal batteries use the energy being created by the temperature difference between the terminals. The new plant is aimed at resolving the problem of lack of sustainable battery technology that can offer quick charge times, and solve range anxiety. As if it was less, thermal batteries have little or no carbon footprint. It is made up of 95 percent reusable materials. With the successful commissioning of the plant, the bulging solar vehicle market is set to receive its fair share of boost. With an expectedly long life cycle, the battery is said to be a bigger solution to the woes of the EV segment.
