Beijing’s Upcoming Airport to Power 10% of Electricity Needs by Solar Energy By Ankur/ Updated On Thu, Dec 13th, 2018 The airport which is set to start trial run by the end of September next year, will power its facility with the use of solar energy, earth energy with traditional energy sources. Beijing Daxing International Airport, China’s upcoming airport will power 10% of its energy needs from Solar energy, local authorities have told. The airport which is set to start trial run by the end of September next year, will power its facility with the use of solar energy, earth energy with traditional energy sources as informed by Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform. The solar panels which will be installed on the roof of the airport, car parking, business jet hanger and cargo areas, will produce 6.1 million KW/hour of electricity per year. The airport which is located 46 kilometers south of downtown Beijing is coming up to take the pressure off from Beijing Capital International Airport which is overcrowded. Heating and cooling systems in the airport’s supporting facilities will be powered by geothermal heat pumps which are deployed in the nearby Yongding River’s detention basin.
