The two will work together for making progress in the carbon market and to encourage the set up of renewable energy projects. Community development will be a focus area. Engie & Canadian Solar to Charge up UK Energy Storage Sector with 226 MWh BESS Industry body Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) and Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of States (AREAS) have forged a partnership. They have joined hands to share knowledge and information on developments that are policy and regulations related. The two will work together for making progress in the carbon market and to encourage the set up of renewable energy projects. Community development will be a focus area. A statement released by CMAI read as, “It has signed an MoU with AREAS to ensure regular exchange of knowledge, guidance, information, innovation, policy and regulatory developments in the carbon market; and enhance the development of renewable energy projects to offset emissions with a strong focus on community development.” Manish Dabkara, President, CMAI, added, “Our association aims to empower this journey towards carbon neutrality; and we are delighted to collaborate with AREAS. We look forward to facilitating the development of a robust carbon market in India and maximising our synergies to the greatest extent possible to achieve our common goal of a net-zero developed India.” Jeevan Kumar Jethani, Executive Director, AREAS, said that the agreement has been entered into with a view to enable India to achieve its target for net-zero by 2070. The partnership will also pave the way for more projects on renewable energy and accelerate energy that is both grid-connected and off-grid too. Greenhouse Gases mitigation projects will also see a push. In 2021, AREAS signed an MoU with National Institute of Solar Energy, National Institute of Wind Energy and Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio Energy for cooperation on technologies related to renewable energy. India recently passed the Electricity (Amendment) Bill that seeks to establish a carbon credits market.
