Assam Energy Development Agency to Provide Solar Power for 7000 Families in Guwahati

The ministry has sanctioned 14MW grids to the Assam Energy Development Agency to implement the project in Assam for 2017-18.

In a significant development, the Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA) under the state’s science and technology department aims to provide solar energy to around 7,000 families in Guwahati.

The solar power project, which will be executed to reduce dependence for power on other sources, is now waiting for a no-objection certificate from the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd.

“The Centre has set a target of installing 40 gigawatt (GW) of solar power in the country by 2022. The ministry of new and renewable energy has allocated 250MW grids connected to rooftop solar plants in Assam by 2022. Out of this, the ministry has sanctioned 14MW grids to the Assam Energy Development Agency to implement the project in Assam for 2017-18 with 70 per cent subsidy for residential, institutional and social sectors,” one of the AEDA officials said.

The system will consist of solar panels, solar inverter or power conditioning unit and an energy meter. It will be available in three different power generating category as 1KW to 10 KW, 10KW to 100 KW and 100KW to 500KW and will cost of Rs 18,087, Rs 16,794 and Rs 15,504 respectively.

“By this energy producing system one can properly utilise vacant roof space at their home and other establishments. It has also low gestation period and lower transmission and distribution losses,” Imdadul Hussain, an AEDA official, said.
