APS in Arizona Issues RfP for 400 MW of Solar and Wind Energy Resources By Ayush Verma/ Updated On Mon, Sep 16th, 2019 The Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) has announced that it has issued two separate RfP for solar and wind energy resources worth a combined 400 MW The Arizona Public Service Co. (APS), the largest and longest-serving electric company in the state has announced that it has issued two separate Request for Proposals (RfP) for solar and wind energy resources. These RFPs were first announced in late July with the aim to help the company expand renewable energy portfolio to approximately 2,500 megawatts by 2021 – enough to power more than half a million Arizona homes. The first RFP is seeking competitive proposals for up to 150 MW of APS-owned solar resources to be in service by December 31, 2021. Projects must employ commercially proven technology and must be designed with the flexibility to add energy storage as a future option. The second RFP will pursue up to 250 MW of wind resources to be in service as soon as possible, but no later than 2022. The company will consider both APS-owned resources, as well as those owned by third parties that would sell the output to APS under a power purchase agreement. Both RFPs will allow commercial customers to partner with APS in support of their own sustainability and clean energy goals. For each RFP, a separate, third-party independent monitor will oversee the entire procurement process. Using a balanced energy mix that is 50 percent carbon-free, APS has one of the country’s cleanest energy portfolios, including both Palo Verde Generating Station and renewable energy. In August, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has released a request for proposals (RfP) for offshore wind power for the procurement of energy derived from offshore wind projects. This RfP seeks up to 2 GW of offshore wind. This RfP represents the state’s first solicitation dedicated specifically to offshore wind development. The last date for bid submission is September 30, 2019, and a pre-bid meeting was held on August 29, 2019, to address the concerns raised by the prospective bidders. For more information click here.
