All the weight is being put behind setting up an Energy University in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district where graduate and postgraduate would be commenced for the upcoming academic year.

S S Mantha, former chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was recently appointed as consultant for the university. Nantha visited several places in the district to find a suited location where the energy University can be set up in a temporary accommodation.

Among the places where Nantha visited were campuses of engineering colleges which are not functional anymore due to lack of students. He also visited local JNTUA and SKU campuses and met Vice-Chancellors who were willing to give out their campuses for the purpose of hosting the energy university.

To take the final decision on establishing the energy university in temporary building S S Mantha has sent a detailed report to the state government who will take the final call on the issue.

The District Collector will get involved only after government’s nod. The launch of energy university and the call for admission into PG and graduate courses will be taken by District Collector G Veera Pandian. In the first session of the courses around 800 will be filled by the students for various courses.

The University will also boost the government’s strategy to shift from conventional source and create a non-conventional energy circuit with Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool districts.

The major stakeholders in the project include AP Genco, private power major Suzlon, AP Transco besides others.
