Andhra Wins Over Premier Energies From Telangana With Plant Shift

Andhra Wins Over Premier Energies From Telangana With Plant Shift Premier Energies

Premier Energies, a Hyderabad-based company, has decided to relocate its 4 GW Solar PV TOPCon cell manufacturing facility from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh.

The company shared this update in its regulatory filing, stating, “For the implementation of the 4 GW Solar PV TOPCon Cell manufacturing, initially planned at UDL-5 Part in the Industrial Park, Seetharampur, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana, as disclosed in the Prospectus, we are now shifting to a new location at the Industrial Park, Naidupeta Village, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh.”

Explaining the rationale behind the shift, Premier Energies noted, “After conducting a comprehensive market analysis, the management has decided to adopt a backward integration strategy by co-locating the silicon ingot and wafer manufacturing facility with solar PV cell production.”

Telangana, which was part of Andhra Pradesh before being carved out in 2014, has been a strong competitor to Andhra Pradesh, besides other states in attracting industries to the state.

New Location Update

Premier Energies  also announced that it has secured land within the Industrial Park in Naidupeta. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation has allocated 269.71 acres, with 169.71 acres already allotted and an additional 100 acres granted in principle.

Premier Energies stated, “This site will accommodate the 4 GW Solar PV TOPCon cell facility alongside a 5 GW silicon ingot and wafer manufacturing unit, supporting our backward integration strategy. This co-location ensures a seamless supply chain for both ingot and wafer production, as well as PV cell manufacturing.” The total land acquisition cost of ₹1,621 million will be financed through unutilized offer proceeds initially earmarked for general corporate purposes, aligning with the company’s funding strategy.

As one of the largest solar cell manufacturers in India, Premier Energies has enjoyed a strong surge in profitability on the back of the DCR cell mandate, and further backward integration is meant to provide it with more security against future volatility in inputs for its manufacturing plants.
