Ameresco & Sunel Group Bid in Unison for 1.5 GW Solar & BESS Projects in UK, Europe

Engie & Canadian Solar to Charge up UK Energy Storage Sector with 226 MWh BESS

US-based renewable energy firm Ameresco and the Sunel Group, an EPC contractor and developer for solar projects, have joined forces to bid for 1.5 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. These projects are located in the UK and Europe across Greece, Italy, Spain, Romania.

The said projects are presently in the phase of bidding and are slated to exceed the contract value of $500m.

Clean energy will be generated from the solar projects while BESS will ensure that the remains stable and resilient.

The partnership will bring together the core competencies the two firms in EPC  (engineering, procurement and construction) and the O&M of large-scale solar and BESS projects. It will also pave the way for the acceleration of utility-scale renewable generation.

It is held that the renewable projects under development by Ameresco and Sunel Group will help bring down carbon emissions while augmenting renewable energy share across the European grid.

Two months ago, Ameresco signed an agreement aimed at the acquisition of ENERQOS Energy Solutions S.r.l. ENERQOS- a renewable energy and energy efficiency firm that is based in Milan. With the acquisition, Ameresco’s expansion of portfolio in clean energy projects and solutions all over Italy will be possible.

The Enabling Solar Policy Climate of Europe 

From less than 2 GW of total manufacturing capacity, Europe is potentially on course for total module manufacturing capacity of well over 15 GW by 2025. In a recent move that is helping Europe’s solar manufacturing industry gather momentum in an unprecedented way, the European Commission has announced state finance for clean tech manufacturing. This is to be achieved by way of the Green Deal Industrial Plan (GDIP) for European Union. Further, the Net Zero Industrial Act has further provided impetus to the renewable energy landscape of Europe.
