E-commerce giant Amazon continues to increase the amount of renewable energy in its portfolio. Its latest addition of 2.7 GW of cumulative capacity across 71 new renewables projects across countries makes it one of the largest corporate buyers  of renewable energy.

The company’s declaration is a component of its goal to completely run on green electricity by 2025. Three of these solar projects Amazon will invest in India would have a combined capacity of 420MW.

These Rajasthan-based projects will bring the company’s total number of renewable energy projects in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to 57. Amazon has unveiled its first rooftop solar projects in Europe (from 71 new renewables projects), including its first solar farm in Poland, France, and Austria.

Currently, the e-commerce company is working on 117 renewable energy projects around the continent. Also, Amazon intends to increase clean energy capacity by 1GW throughout the Southeast US.

The company in South America has revealed that its first renewable energy project will be a 122MW solar farm in Brazil. When fully operational, Amazon’s global renewable energy portfolio will be able to produce 50,000 GWh of clean energy, which is equal to the annual energy needs of 4.6 million people living in the US.

“We are bringing new wind and solar projects online to power our offices, fulfillment centers, data centers, and stores, which collectively serve millions of customers globally. We are on a path to reach 100% renewable energy across our entire business by 2025,” said Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services.

“Countries all over the world are trying to hasten the switch to a clean energy economy, and ongoing investments like ours can aid in hastening their progress as we all cooperate to lessen the effects of climate change.”

Amazon maintains a portfolio of 379 renewable energy projects worldwide, claiming to be the largest corporate consumer of renewable energy in the world.

As mentioned above, Amazon would invest in the Indian renewable energy market. To power its renewable portfolio, Amazon signed three separate agreements for a total capacity of 420 MW in India. Additionally, Amazon announced 23 new solar rooftop plants across its fulfillment centers in India, which will account for an additional 4.09 MW of renewable energy.
