Alpex Set To Add 1.6 GW Solar Cells Manufacturing Plant At Uttar Pradesh alpex

Greater Noida-based solar module manufacturer Alpex Solar has received shareholder approval for its expansion plans to add 1.6 GW of capacity through a new solar cell plant. The company has announced an investment of Rs. 642 crores to establish this 1.6 GW solar cell manufacturing facility. This move into solar cell production complements Alpex Solar’s existing operations in solar PV module and aluminum frame manufacturing.

Alpex envisions construction of the new solar cell plant will be constructed on the company’s recently acquired seven-acre site in Kosi Kotwan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The expansion will take place in three phases, with the first 500 MW expected to become operational by October 2025. Phase II aims to add 1 GW and Phase III envisions the addition of 1.6 GW. These remaining phases are slated for completion by April 2026 and September 2026, respectively. Alpex Solar’s recent move into solar cell manufacturing aligns with company’s goal of providing integrated solar solutions, including solar PV modules, aluminum frames, EPC services, and IPP expertise.

In addition to its solar cell manufacturing venture, Alpex Solar also attempts to double its solar PV module capacity to 2.4 GW. This expansion includes:

  • Ongoing efforts to reach a 1.2 GW capacity by Q3 FY2025
  • Adding an additional 1.2 GW capacity at the new Kosi Kotwan facility

The capital for these expansions will be sourced from a combination of bank facilities, internal accruals, and equity infusion. Alpex Solar, a solar module manufacturer uses both monocrystalline and polycrystalline technologies and provides various solar energy solutions.

The company aims at deeper integration with the solar cell foray – building upon its presence in solar PV modules and aluminum frames. The company intends to set up a new line of solar cells with a capacity of Gigawatt range at the greenfield Kosi Kotwan plant.

With the proposed expansion of ALMM to cover solar cells from 2026, there is expected to be a rush to add cell manufacturing to their portfolios by solar manufacturers, particularly those with module capacities of 2 GW or more.
