The latest updated Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) list released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) reported a rise in domestic solar module manufacturing capacity. As per the latest ALMM list, released by the MNRE, the total enlisted solar module manufacturing capacity in India touched 41,463 MW.

The latest list reported a rise of 3.96 GW of new capacities compared to the last ALMM list, released by the MNRE on March 22, 2024. The rise of the new capacity was attributed to the addition of new production capacities coming under the ALMM and some of the existing solar module manufacturers enlisting their new increased capacities.

Some of the new enlisted capacity additions came from Premier Energies (1320 MW of new capacities), ReNew (856 MW), Grew (1150 MW). Swelect Energies also increased its enlisted capacity from 153 to 627.

Some of other additions came from Agarwal Renewable (83 MW), Contender (2 MW), Solberry Energies (56 MW). Total Solar (52 MW), Integrated Batteries India (58 MW), AG Solar (53 MW). In total 11 solar module manufacturers reported a rise in their solar module manufacturing capacities

The revised ALMM list also for the first time classified the minimum threshold capacities to be included under the ALMM in two categories–one for Silicon-based crystalline solar modules and another-Cadmium-based solar modules. The ministry announced different parameters for these two segments of solar modules last month.

The ministry earlier on March 29 also issued a separate notification to reimpose the provisions of ALMM to boost the usage of domestic solar modules in government-sponsored projects. This was a long pending demand of the Indian solar module makers to counter the dumping of Chinese solar modules into India. Last month the ALMM list saw a growth owing to the addition of new solar module capacities from Tatas from their new plant-based in Tamil Nadu. Nevertheless, India’s total solar capacities also created a new record by the end of 2023-24 with the additon of 15 GW of new capacities, surpassing the records of the last six years.
