The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in its latest Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) revealed that the total enlisted Indian solar module manufacturing capacity touched 58.42 GW. The ministry earlier issued the last ALMM on September 27.

In the latest list, the ministry reported an addition of around 2.09 GW of new module manufacturing capacity. The major push came from the addition of 2065 MW of new solar module manufacturing capacity from SAEL Limited which got its production line enlisted under ALMM.

As per the list, SAEL has planned to produce bifacial TOPCOn solar modules from its new plant in addition to mono-PERC modules. In addition to SAEL Limited, Grew Energy added 29 MW of new production in the list from its existing plant from Jaipur.

Nevertheless, some of the companies like ITI Ltd, Sunfield, Jyotitech, Suryakamal Energy and others also got delisted from the latest ALMM. Companies like Waaree Energies, ReNew, First Solar, Tata Power and other continue to dominate the list with the highest enlisted capacity.

The latest ALMM has names of 93 listed solar module manufacturing plants across India. The latest ALMM also gave out details of the provisional enlistment of solar companies. This included the enlistment of 500 MW of capacities from Credence, Ganesh Green Bharat with an enlisted capacity of 131 MW and Unique Sun Power with a capacity of 43 MW.

The ministry on the other hand also issued a separate clarification related to the applicability of the ALMM norms for open access projects and net-metering. Earlier, this year, the ministry reimposed the original mandate of the ALMM, leading to a jolt to the Chinese solar module manufacturing companies in India.

The ministry has now also proposed to bring domestic solar cell production under the ambit of ALMM. With the announcement of the same, several solar module makers have now planned to scale up module production and also decided to setup their new solar cell manufacturing plan, However, a lot of these firms are now baffled with the timelines mentioned for the ALMM for solar cell manufacturing.
