AES RfP Carbon-Free Projects

AES has issued a Request for Proposals (RfP), seeking new and repowered carbon-free renewable energy projects for its customers in the PJM area, inclusive of AES’ strategic alliance with Google.

For any projects moving forward out of this RFP, AES Solutions Management, LLC will be the contracted buyer and counterparty to any Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) from this RFP and AES will be the sole interface with respondents to this RFP regarding any projects submitted to the RFP.

The firm is seeking proposals for the purchase of up to 1 GW of energy, environmental attributes, ancillary services, and capacity from newly constructed renewable energy projects with commercial operation dates between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2023 in PJM.

Respondents are requested to provide pricing for bundled energy, environmental attributes, and ancillary services both including and excluding capacity attributes for terms of 8, 10, and 12 years. AES will consider both unit contingent and fixed hourly shape structures from new solar, new DC-coupled solar + storage, new/repowered wind, and other new carbon-free energy sources within PJM.

“Innovation in creating customised solutions is one of the core factors we’ll be evaluating in a potential provider. We are looking for providers that can offer the best renewable projects while being open and flexible to apply proven technologies that enable us to deliver safer and more dependable, cost-effective energy. Respondents are encouraged to note aspects of their projects that are open to joint innovation,” the firm stated.

All interested parties must send in their Expression of Interest submissions by June 26, 2020. The RFP submissions are due on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

The AES-Google Strategic Alliance focuses on energy fuels life, powers business and sustains growth. In November 2019, the two firms had formed a strategic alliance to improve the experience for corporate energy customers and to develop and implement solutions that enable broad adoption of clean energy. AES is working with Google to sponsor clean energy projects in targeted markets in the United States and Latin America that have the potential to help Google meet its clean energy objectives.

Google has already achieved 100 percent renewable energy matching for the last three years and is the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy worldwide, with more than 5.5 GW under contract.
