Adani Green is now planning to add 700 MW of new wind energy capacities in the current financial year. This comes after the Indian renewable energy company commissioned 250 MW of wind energy capacities at its Khavda renewable part recently. With this, the company’s is likely to add a total of 1 GW of new wind energy capacities in 2024-25 alone.

The top management of the company in its latest investors call talked about the projected plan of the green firm. Amit Singh, the CEO of the company recently told the investors about the plan of the firm to boost wind energy projects. The company has now planned to also add 6 GW of total renewable energy capacities in financial year 2024-25.

“We are projecting additional 6 GW for this year, out of which we have just commissioned 250 MW wind, which will essentially become a backbone of our operations in Khavda. Going forward, the majority of our operations are targeted towards, you know, solar in both Rajasthan and Khavda, but we’re expecting close to 700 megawatt of additional wind capacity, which will come in during the rest of the year,” he said.

Bolstered by the favourable conditions in the Rann of Kutch region, the company has deployed wind turbines with the highest capacities of 5.2 MW. Adani Green is hopeful of achieving a Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) of around 35% with the high power wind turbines, favourable wind conditions and other supportive technologies at Khavda.

“The commissioned turbines are all 5.2 megawatt and in the near future, we are focusing on that platform as well, for maximizing our MUs being generated in Khavda. For other sites we are exploring and we are looking at different options, but I think for now, the focus is to maximize, what we have designed for Khavda specifically. Khavda has a very high frequency distribution of high wind speeds and it requires a particular kind of profile of the blade and different kind of heights and other dimensions,” Singh added.

Large wind turbines

The top management of the firm believes that larger capacities and large wind turbines can yield good results for the wind projects of the firm.

“Our wind portfolio combines site capacity ranging between 50 MW to the recently commissioned capacity of 250 megawatt. What we have observed with the larger capacity and more efficient machines which we have installed, if you really see a breakup of plant availability for either for 250 megawatt or our 325 MW in MP, the plant availability is in excess of 98%. So, we do believe that progressively on a portfolio level, our availability will also move towards the levels which we have seen in our recently commissioned large-scale projects,” Phuntsok Wangyal, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Adani Green said in the investors’ call.

Adani Green already has a total renewable portfolio of more than 11 GW. With the addition of 6 new proposed green capacities, the total capacity of the firm is said to reach around 16 GW to 17 GW by the end of next year, if all goes well. The company has also planned to cater to the green energy needs of its merchants through wind energy alone.

“So out of the 6 which we are adding, close to 1,800 odd MW would be merchant, which is predominantly wind, so 1,000 MW out of that is wind, out of which 250 we have already done. Then on a mixed basis already we have some 550 MW operational merchant, again that is predominantly wind, 350 MW out of that is wind and 200 MW solar. So, from a split perspective we are talking about close to 1,400 odd MW of wind and balance being solar out of roughly 2,400 MW merchant in total by end of this year and this is out of a capacity of roughly 17 GW,” Raj Kumar Jain, Head Business Development of Adani Green told the investors.
