83.38 GW Renewable Energy Installed till Oct: RK Singh

Out of the country’s 175 GW target for renewable energy by 2022, India has installed a total of 83.38 GW by the end of October this year, said RK Singh.

This information was given by R.K. Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) New & Renewable Energy, Power and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

From the aggregate capacity of 83.38 GW of renewable energy, India has installed 31.69 GW from solar, 37.09 GW from wind, 9.95 GW from biomass and 4.65 GW from small hydro, the minister added.

Singh also informed about the other measures taken by the government to increase the deployment of renewable energy in the country including incentives such as accelerated depreciations, waiver of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges & losses, viability gap funding (VGF) and permitting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 100 per cent under the automatic route.

He added that, the renewable energy projects were awarded through transparent bidding process, and his government also issued standard bidding guidelines to enable the distribution licensees to procure power at competitive rates in the cost effective manner.

After Paris Agreement, the Narendra Modi led NDA government has set a target of installing 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2022 which includes 100 GW from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from biomass and 5 GW from small hydro.
