Over 649 schools in Chhattisgarh electrified through solar energy By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Sat, Jun 24th, 2017 CREDA has reportedly setup solar plants at 490 schools out of 649 and ensured supply connectivity in 159 schools where solar plants were already installed. More than 649 government schools in remote areas of Chhattisgarh have been electrified through solar energy. An energy department official speaking to PTI said “Electrification of government schools in remote areas of the state through solar energy, being done by Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA), is going on at a good pace.” He further added “So far atleast 649 schools have been covered under the project against the target of 1,561 schools.” CREDA has reportedly setup solar plants at 490 schools out of 649 and ensured supply connectivity in 159 schools where solar plants were already installed. Total cost to electrify 1,561 schools in Chhattisgarh through sola power is estimated at around Rs. 49.98 crore of which so far Rs 8.18 crore have been spent by CREDA. Besides, a proposal of Rs 37.80 crore has been sent to Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyaan office here for the electrification of remaining schools, the official said. Moreover, the agency has initiated tender process to install solar energy plants in 164 schools more, he added.
