More than 300 solar powered mobile phone jammers to be installed in 24 district and central jails of Uttar Pradesh By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, Dec 30th, 2016 Jails in Uttar Pradesh to get solar powered jammers to keep tab on illegal phone calls UP government is reportedly planning to install more than 300 solar powered mobile phone jammers in 24 district and central jails of Uttar Pradesh by the end of March 2017. According to TOI maximum number of solar powered jammers will be installed in Bareilly central jail, Naini, Lucknow, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Agra and others. With the installation of jammers UP government expects to raze the illegal mobile communication between prisoners and their aides to execute crime. Speaking to the publication, additional director general of police for prison, G L Meena said, “Due to shortage of power supply in the state, seldom prisoners took advantage of loopholes and easily make contact with their counterparts over phones hidden in jails to execute a crime, but now effective solar powered jammers will stop this nuisance.” He said, “State government has sanctioned Rs 3.51 crore for the installation of solar plants, jammers, CCTV cameras, video conference systems, door frame detectors and other security strengthening instruments.” In the first phase, solar powered jammers will be installed in jails of Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Sultanpur, Meerut and Noid. In second phase Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Naini, Pratapgarh, Lucknow, Aligarh and Bulandshahr will have the jammers.
