The GEOA has now expanded its footprint across 22 states, according to recent data shared by the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, in Parliament. He told the parliament, in his written reply, “Some of the key states are West Bengal, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Haryana, Sikkim, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana, Manipur, Mizoram, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Nagaland and Goa.” Whereas, among the union territory, the minister stated, “The key beneficiaries are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Delhi (NCT), Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.” 90% Surge In Installations After Green Energy Open Access: IEEFA Also Read Explaining the role of GEOA in bringing the Commercial & Industry (C&I) sector into the solar basket the minister mentioned, “The GEOA has helped in bringing the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector into a solar basket and as reported by the Grid Controller of India (GCI), the Central Nodal Agency maintaining the Central Registry for GEOA applications, the total energy scheduled in the solar basket by the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector for the period 1.10.2023 to 01.12.2024 was 529.67MU. To streamline the process, the Ministry of Power (MoP) also created a green window program for green energy open access web portal launched to submit all the applications on Green Energy Open Access. “ Impact Of Green Energy Open Access A new report claims that regulatory clarity on green energy open access led to an upsurge in annual renewable energy installations. The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) prepared the report. The report found the Green Energy Open Access Rules (GEOA) 2022 aided in creating new installation records in FY2023 and FY2024. The report said that the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) open access market witnessed a massive 90.4% jump in annual installed capacity between the fiscal year (FY) 2023 and FY2024. By the end of FY2024, cumulative capacity reached 18.7 gigawatts (GW). Gujarat and Rajasthan have been at the forefront of this growth, adding 1.43GW and 0.98GW in FY2024, respectively.
