Navratan Katariya, Founder, Sy-Energy Consultants By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, May 5th, 2017 Navratan fell in love with solar energy much before he joined his electrical engineering in 1980. His first entrepreneurship mode of career introduced some of the first few projects gifted to the Government: from solar pumps, micro-wind hybrid for defense, solar thermal refrigeration for milk chilling and vaccine storage; and a Joint Venture with Daimler Benz for polycrystalline technology in 1988-1992 period. While it brought many new technologies in the country, it was indeed ahead of time. It took him many more years to bring up what is today, the largest solar EPC company in India, Sterling and Wilson’s solar division; and MW EPC division of Waaree, the largest solar module manufacturer in India. With experience of 14 startups of new businesses over 2 plus decades, in solar, wind and engineering, he now consults and helps entrepreneurs as well as existing companies to get into solar as a business; or to those who wish to set up their own solar generating plants. He was earlier consultant to Greenpeace, was appointed as Fellow at Salzburg Global Seminar institute and is a Certified Trainer for GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment). He also introduced the concept of carpooling in June 2000 and ran a not for profit carpool Bangalore group. Navratan is a masters in energy systems from IIT Mumbai and a MBA from The Netherlands.
